According to Omniture’s 2010 “Online Analytics Benchmark Survey”, Facebook is the most important site for marketers’ social media marketing efforts.
Taken from a sample of 600 marketers, 69 percent is said to be utilizing social media in their marketing efforts. 63 percent of those respondents ranked Facebook as the most important site for that activity, followed by blogs at 40 percent, and “other” sites at 34 percent. Only 28 percent of respondents ranked Twitter as most important.
However, 88 percent of respondents stated that Facebook was either their first or second most important social media channel, followed by Twitter, with 72 percent of marketers ranking it among their top two. Thus looking overall, it is safe to suggest that marketers are focusing the majority of their social media marketing efforts on those two networks.
Overall the report found that retail marketers were making more use of social media than those in other categories, with around 80 percent of respondents in the retail sector making use of social media channels.
